In Flight Spring 2010 Mix-Improved quality

Here's a mix I started compiling a couple of months ago and I finally laid it down last night. It contains a lot of stuff from LP's I recently acquired, plus some rediscovered gems. Funk & jazz with a dash of soul. Kind of moody. A bunch of breaks. Can't wait to rock this on the road tomorrow. I hope you like it, too.

Improved direct link here!

  1. Marlena Shaw - Liberation Conversation
  2. Eddie Kendricks - Date With The Rain
  3. Buddy Miles Express - Funky Mule
  4. Luiz Bonfa - Danse V
  5. LA Carnival - Blind Man
  6. Yusef Lateef - Queen Of The Nile
  7. Ohio Players - ( I Wanna Know) Do You Feel It
  8. Sly & The Family Stone - You Caught Me Smilin'
  9. Don Blackman - Holding You, Loving You
  10. Jeremy Steig - Cakes
  11. Ohio Players - Honey
  12. Graham Central Station - Got To Go Through It To Get To It
  13. Clay Frazier - Feel The Funk
  14. The Four Tops - Still Waters (Love)
  15. Ramsey Lewis - Cecile
  16. The Dells - Love Is Blue/I Can Sing A Rainbow Medley
  17. Deodato - September 13
  18. The B.T. Express - You Got It-I Want It

I just discovered your blog after poking around the web looking for Eddie Kendricks' 'People... Hold On' on vinyl. Thanks for the posts and please keep them coming! I've shared your site with a number of my friends, so know your music collection is reaching active earbuds far and wide. Let me know if you're looking for anything in particular, maybe me and my people post some treats back your way.
All the best,
Nick from Oakland, CA

Thanks so much, you guys! You're making me feel bad for not posting lately. I'll be updating the blog soon, I promise.
BTW, sorry the levels are so low on this mix. I'm going to fix that as well.

Also--for what it's worth I'm from Chicago, I just live in Germany. But I got a nice laugh from the comment "Wow nice tracklist. You sure you are German." :)
Keep on listening and I promise more gems soon!

Surprisingly sophisticated track by Don Blackman with a very contemporary music sensibility. Also, noteworthy 'fail' by Buddy 'Bombastic" Miles. To say nothing of an entire track of Ramsey Lewis...on thumb piano? That's sick.

I'm adding your site to my tweety recommendations of the month.

Looking forward to your next mix...

Nice Mix!

I have a correction for track 13)

It's Ceasar Frazier - Funk it Up

(Sampled by Gang Starr in the early 90ies..)

Cheers

Actually we're both wrong. It's called "Funk It Down." Nice catch, though. Thanks for tuning in! :)

And Nick--thank you for your support! I really appreciate it! That Eddie Kendricks never gets old for me.
